Old friends \u2014 same shape, same sound<\/div>\n

Good news \u2014 you already know some Russian letters! These 6 letters look the same as Latin letters AND sound the same. Start here to build confidence fast.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\u0410 \u2014 a (father)<\/div>\n

Exactly like “a” in father<\/em> or spa<\/em>. No surprises here.<\/p>\n

Like “k” in king<\/em> or “c” in cat<\/em>. Same shape, same sound.<\/p>\n

Exactly like English M. One of the easiest letters.<\/p>\n

Like “o” in core<\/em> \u2014 but only when stressed<\/strong>. When unstressed, \u041e sounds like \u0410.<\/p>\n

Key rule:<\/strong> \u043c\u043e\u043b\u043e\u043a\u043e\u0301 \u2192 \/malako\/ (only the last \u041e is stressed, the first two become \u0410). This is the most important pronunciation rule in Russian.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Like “t” in top<\/em>. Clean and crisp \u2014 no aspiration like English T.<\/p>\n
